Trip Report - Medway Touring

The British Summer was demonstrated on our recent Medway trip. We had most of the weather features- sun, rain and wind. Janinne and Barney had done plenty of planning and a fun and enjoyable trip was had by all: touring the river Medway, riding a few of the weir sluices and the odd rope swing as well. It is worth mentioning here that our family friendly trips are gaining a lot of engagement. Paddle touring is becoming one of our most popular activities. Great work Barney for pushing this on and we all look forward to a busy future calendar. We also have a medieval banquet planned for the Symonds Yat trip. So if you are interested get in touch with Trish.

Summer Club Activities

In early June we had a successful activity day down at the Barkstore, with a taster session, club BBQ and river clean up event providing fun for existing members along with potential new ones! It was all going on that day, the pictures probably tell the story better than my words.

This time of year a lot of people head off on Peer paddles (have a look at the January Blog to see an explanation on Peer Vs Club Event explanation), with some trips to Cardiff or further afield to the Alps for white water fun. As a club we are getting busy, Luke is getting a steady following with his surf activities - peer paddles again. Keep an eye on the club Facebook for when they are going on. The lakeside session is running every week with a regular core of paddlers attending for lots of rolling development and even the appearance of a Sup-Café. So, lots going on. One area we will need to work on is recruiting leaders for Barkstore sessions, as the list of volunteers has slimmed as people move on. There will be a drive to recruit more regular session leaders - I would like to see a cohort of people coming through the club developing skills up to at least Paddlesport leader. Keep an eye on your emails.

So for the rest of the Summer come and see us at our regular club events at Barkstore or Lakeside. There are some one day white water events going up now. I will be attending these to support white water skills development. I want to see a few more new faces on the River Dart Loop this season. I am going to have short break from the blog for the rest of the Summer and posts will start again in the early Autumn.

Happy paddling,

Joe.
